Physiotherapy

For:

We help your child build strength, movement, and physical skills. We support children and young people up to 19 in Surrey who have long-term or complex physical needs. We also work with you and your child’s school to help them understand how to support your child every day.

About the team

We are a team of physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants who work with children and young people to support them as they learn to move. We understand how disabilities can affect movement. We will work with you and your child to help them take part in everyday activities that matter to them.

We can usually help if:

  • You are aged 0–18 years (or 19 years if in specialist education)
  • You have a physical difficulty, developmental delay or disability that affects how you move, sit, stand, walk, or take part in daily activities
  • You need physiotherapy support at home, school, a clinic, or in the community
  • You have a Surrey GP or attend a Surrey school
  • You have longterm conditions such as cerebral palsy, neuromuscular conditions, genetic or neurological conditions

We may not be the right service if:

Questions and answers

What happens at the first appointment?
At the first appointment, a physiotherapist will talk to you about your child’s movement and physical needs. They will watch how your child moves and may ask them to try simple activities. Together, you will agree on goals and a plan to support your child.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Bring any letters, reports, or information about your child’s health or development. It can also help to bring comfortable clothing so your child can move easily. If your child uses equipment, please bring this with you.
How long will I have to wait for an appointment?
Waiting times can vary depending on demand and how urgent your child’s needs are. We will contact you when an appointment is available. You can get in touch if your situation changes.
What support will my child receive?
We will give you exercises and activities to help your child build strength and improve movement. We may also suggest ways to support your child at home and at school. We work with you and your child’s school to make sure everyone understands how to help.
Will we need more than one appointment?
Many children have follow-up appointments to review progress and update their plan. These may be at a clinic, school, or over the phone. We will agree this with you based on your child’s needs.
Will the physiotherapist work with my child’s school?
Yes, we can work with your child’s school if needed. We may share advice or support school staff to help your child during the day. This helps make sure your child is supported in all settings.
